People don't like the truth?

I had a decent conversation with an xhamster user (which is rare on here). What amazed me about this person is that she listened to what I had to say and didn't lose her shyt. Not only did she listen but she was patient and polite. Unfortunately it didn't end in a friendship but I feel like my point and reason was heard by this person. What really got me thinking tho is that alot of people hate the truth and will fight it at all cost if it doesn't follow their agenda. How did we get here? As people....how in the world did we get to a point in humanity that we are just glad to have at LEAST a decent conversation? Is the truth really that harmful, non-useful ? I'm all ears.........

People have stopped believing in civilised conversation and the assumption of the others' good intention. People want to get upset and antagonistic. It amplifies the smug and safe sense of "my group is good, theirs is evil".
