Dumb stuff on bikecycles

Two weeks ago I got sick. Really sick: Like 101.5 fever and laid out in bed for 4 days, barely able to move kind of sick.
In the ensuing 10 days after, I rode my bike twice for a grand total of 42 miles. I was still coughing and having lung issues until the air warmed up above 55 degrees.
Last night it was warm and I felt good, so I rode in the dark with some pals for 22 miles on the gravel, and I wiped out and hurt my arm.
Today, I decided it was a fucking awesome idea to "take it easy" and *only* ride 50 miles on the Schyulkill Trail which is mostly flat. Flat doesn't mean easy though, as prevails winds were against me on the return trip, and I was totally spent by mile 40.
My legs were cramping up in odd ways, sometimes my quads would lock up, sometimes it was the hamstrings, or my calves. Once my arm that I fell on last night started to cramp up. Eventually I couldn't ride through it and had to stop for a while, 2 miles from home. I sat in the grass and considered calling Uber for a ride home... But pride took over and I rode in the last two miles.

My legs still cramp up depending on how I move. I've recarbed and protein loaded, so thisnisngonna be a loooong night.

Created : Oh yeah it can happen. I used to do 300 and 400km rides with 20.5 and 27 hour time limits respectively. Doing 250 miles in a 24 hour period can fuck with your brain, especially when you get into the late hours of the night and start hallucinating from exhaustion. I've seen some fucked up things after 20 hours of riding... Stands of weeds that look like a person hiding in the shadows for me, Tree branches reaching down at me in the wee hours of the night. Early morning sunlight turning into street signs and wrong turns... It gets scary.

I didn't know riding could do that. So far I've done 20 twice a week with my brother up in the canyons but maybe that's different because we coast back down and stick to the roads.. Did you get a gnarly mark on your arm? O: Or is it just hurting for now?
